Bibimbap (Korea)

Bibimbap is one of the popular foods in Korea; Bibimbap is literally means “mixed rice”. It is served with a bowl of white rice topped with seasoned vegetables (namul) and chilli pepper paste (gochujang), soy sauce and soybean paste. Bibimbap also has raw egg (sometimes fried) and slices of meat (usually beef), it is stirred together completely just before eating Bibimbap.

Bibimbap known from late 19th century, it was in an anonymous cookbook. It is originated from the traditional of mixing all the food that will be an offering that made at an ancestral rite (jesa). Late 20th century, it becomes popular in different country because of the healthy recipe of the Bibimbap, it is also easy to prepare and served on airlines that connects the South Korea.

The preparation of Bibimbap is very easy; the recipe of the Bibimbap is very common.


Here are the ingredients:

Cucumber – julienned
Zucchini (courgette)
Mu (daikon)
Mushroom
Doraji (bellflower root)
Gim
Spinach
Soybean Sprout
Gosari (bracken fern stems)
Dubu (tofu) – either plain of sautéed
Leaf of lettuce (optional)
Beef (chicken or seafood can be a substitute)
Egg (for toppings) – either fried or raw

Bibimbap is very important to Korean, the rich ingredients and the color of the recipe has a symbols.
Black (shiitake mushroom, nori seaweed, bracken ferns) is representing the North Korea.
Red and Orange (chilli, carrots) represents the South Korea.
Green (cucumber, spinach) represents the East Korea.
White (soybean sprout, rice) represents the West Korea.
Yellow (egg) represent the center of the Korea.
