Wonton (Chinese Food)

The origin of wonton can be dated way back 2000 years ago to Han Dynasty, this originally shaped crescent and use in activity of sacrifice and worship. The festival is called Winter Solstice Festival of the Song Dynasty (960 – 1279), the shops usually closed when the time they made wonton as a sacrificial offering for worships. Afterwards, they share wonton to the member of the family.

Wonton is like dumplings, wonton wrapper is thinner than dumpling and it look like crystal every time after cooking. In addition to that, if you will let wonton and dumpling cook the same time, the wonton will cook easier and faster.

The important of wonton’s flavour is the soup; this will be the key of the flavour of the wonton. There are different names of wonton; there are Chaoshou, Shuijiao and Baomian. It is really confusing what wonton and dumpling is, but usually wonton is served with soup while dumplings have sauce in it. Cooking wonton is easy.


Here are the ingredients:

175g ground pork
340g cabbage or celery
24pcs. Wonton wrapper
1 Onion
1teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon sugar
1 tsp. Olive or Sesame oil
1 teaspoon Green Onion (chopped)
Ginger
Soy Sauce, Chicken Powder, Oyster Sauce, pepper to taste
Water (it should not be added into ingredients)

Preparation:

Combine pork, soy sauce, onion, ginger, salt, sugar and mix well in a large bowl and set aside for about 10 minutes.

Direction:

Place a teaspoon at the center of the wrapper and moisten the side of the wrapper with water or egg, then make a triangle by pulling the edge of the wrapper, press the edges of the wrapper so the it won’t open when dropped in the soup.

Repeat the procedure until you made all the mixture wrapped.

For Soup:
Bring water to boil and add chicken powder. Carefully drop the wontons so that the wrapper won’t open. Usually, 10 – 15 wontons for each person, the tips for the wontons won’t stick together do not over crowd the soup with wontons. Cook for about 3 – 5 minutes. It is best served with sesame oil and some oyster sauce.
Tip: You can distinguish if the wontons are cooked if the wonton floats in the surface.
